ICF Mentor Coaching

The ICF defines Mentor Coaching as providing professional assistance in achieving and demonstrating the levels of coaching competency demanded by the desired credential level sought by a coach‐applicant (mentee). Furthermore, Mentor Coaching means an applicant (mentee) being coached on their coaching skills rather than coaching on practice building, life balance, or other topics unrelated to the development of an applicant’s coaching skill.

In addition to coach training, applicants pursuing their ICF credentials are required to recieve “10 hours of mentor coaching to be conducted over a minimum of three months. The Mentor Coach must be an ACC who has completed a full cycle of the credential through renewal, PCC or MCC in good standing.” (per ICF website, ACC ACSTH path).
Please see ICF’s Mentor Coaching page for further details.

What is the difference between Group and 1:1 Mentor Coaching?

  • To review and/or answer questions around ICF competencies
  • To coach the mentor for feedback around ICF competencies

Group Mentor Coaching

Ten hours of Mentor coaching

  • 7 hours in a group setting
  • 3 of the 10 hours are 1:1 sessions with a mentor
  • The group may not consist of more than 10 participants
  • Minimum group size is 6 participants
  • Each mentee coaches in front of the group with the group and mentors providing real-time feedback on competencies.
  • 1:1 sessions may be used in the same manner as one-on-one mentor coaching
